You Know It's the Peak of Summer in Manhattan Beach When....

The 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament and 2017 International Surf Festival have arrived!

The Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament is the premiere 6-man beach volleyball tournament in Southern California. The event is being held on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier on Friday and Saturday, August 4th - 5th, 2017. This is a big deal for us locals because the city had forced the tournament to the middle of the week in recent years due to excessive partying that occurs around the tournament during this time, even though alcohol is not allowed on the beach.

The tournament draws over 50,000 spectators each year, and some years it has been reported to be as many as 70,000 spectators. The draw of the tournament, besides being the peak of summer in such a gorgeous beach town and tight-knit community, is the fun spirit of the event. To go along with each team name, the contestants come up with some very creative costumes.

The '6-Man' tournament is one of the signature events included in the 56th International Surf Festival, which is a 5 day event being held August 2nd - 6th. The Festival promotes the four South Bay beach cities, the world’s best lifeguard service, and physical fitness for thousands of participants. Participants range in age from 8 years old to the late 80’s. Other events that are part of the festival include the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay and the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim, as well as a surfing contest, bodysurfing contest, beach run, paddleboard races, dory race, and youth events.

The events are presented by BEACHSPORT.org, the Chambers of Commerce and Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Department of Beaches and Harbors. Visit @The6Man on Facebook for more information.
